Marquette Catholic Athletic Results April 16, 2013

marquette-catholic-logoThree Marquette Catholic teams were in action last night. The girls tennis team hosted River Forest, while the softball team traveled to Whiting and the baseball team traveled to Bethel College to take on Elkhart Christian.

The girls tennis team had no trouble dispensing of the Ingots, winning 5-0. The girls tennisn team return to action Wednesday, April 17 when they travel to Whiting for a 4:30 contest.

The softball team continues to show improvement despite a young roster. The Blazers lost to Whiting High School 0-14. Devon Wells pitched for the Blazers and the team continues to make strides defensively. Offensively the Blazers were led by Jailah Blakely who went 1-3 with a single. The softball team returns to action, Thursday, April 18 when they host Wheeler in their home opener. First pitch is scheduled for 4:40 p.m.

The baseball team fell down early, trailing 0-5 after two innings. But in the top of the fourth inning, the Blazers made a run, scoring three. A questionable call at home plate ended the Blazer rally with the tying run on 3rd base. Elkhart Christian added a run in the 6th and Marquette Catholic scored again in the top of the 7th, but it wasn't anough as the Blazers lost 4-6.

Bryce Freels (0-1) took the loss for the Blazers, going 5 innings and giving up 5 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 6. Offensively, the Blazers were led by Patrick Cannon who went 2-3 with a single, a double and 2 RBI. William Connelly and Nate Shinn went 1-2 and 1-3 respectively, each having a single. The baseball team returns to action Thursday, April 18 when they travel to Hebron. First pitch in that contest is also scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
