The galleries and merchants of the Uptown Arts District in Michigan City are continuing the tradition started in 2010: The Art Galleries and businesses mentioned below will be open on First Friday March 4, from 5pm (CST) until 8pm or later. In addition to the list below several other venues will be open and things are happening. And don’t forget about the districts many new restaurants!
The Lubeznik Center for the Arts (101W 2nd street) will be featuring “Wide Open Mic” hosted by Tim Rounds, offering an opportunity for poets, musicians, rappers and comedians to face their fears and take “the stage”. Register by March 1 for free participation.
The Southern Shore Art Gallery (724 Franklin) is, for the 4th year, presenting the ”Women as Subject” multimedia exhibition, this year titled “La Femme”- The Female in Image and Form. In one of the previous years this exhibit was cited by the Chicago Tribune as their “Pick of the Week” This year a $200 prize will be awarded for “Best in Show” by Harbour Trust Investment Management.
Also open in the district are Darling (418 Franklin) with new jewelry by Lauren Silvis, FADA! (617 Franklin) with the Grand Opening of “An Artists Collective” of artists, photographers, artisans, makers and entrepreneurs, all in one new location.
Urban Soles (624 Franklin) is welcoming artists Chris Acton of Acton Creatives and Eric Thompson of Thompson's Tables, Hoity Toity (731 Franklin) has artwork for every decor and every budget available and The Nest (803 Franklin) presents “Glow-in-the-dark Face Painting” by Christopher Messer.
Dh2w Architecture will be open for those interested in learning from resident architect Roger Potratz what an architect does and Uptown Portraiture Collective is featuring a “Bucket Drumming Class” for families.
For entertainment after the artwalk head to Maxine’s Restaurant (521 Franklin), where Marco Villarreal Trio will be playing from 9-12pm.
