Many Came to Celebrate La Porte’s Accomplishments at Mayor’s Ball

The La Porte Civic Auditorium held the annual Mayor's Ball on Friday night. People from all over came out to support Mayor Blair Milo on all the work that she has done during her time as Mayor.

At the beginning of the night, Mayor Milo addressed the crowd, thanking everyone for attending and for their strong support in helping La Porte move upward and onward.

"Welcome to the Mayor's Ball for 2014. We're very glad to have everyone here this evening," Mayor Milo said warmly to the crowd. "This is our third year of celebrating the State of the City. A lot of great things are happening across the community that we get to celebrate."

The event was a wrap-up of a big and busy time for Mayor Milo. Earlier that day she delivered the State of the City Address where she shared the progress and successes of the city and delved into plans for more improvements in the coming year.

"I love being able to deliver the State of the City Address. It's a huge highlight for the year to be able to showcase all of the things that we have been able to accomplish in the past year and talk a little bit about what to look forward to in the next year," Mayor Milo explained. "We can celebrate achievements, talk about challenges and how it all connects. This is a great evening and I hope everyone has a good time."

The Tom Milo Big Band played some great tunes that got people up to dance and sing along. Hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar were available thanks to The Timbers of Best Western Plus and the food was appealing to both the eyes and the taste buds.

Everyone was in good spirits as they ate, drank, and were merry. Tuxedos, well-tailored suits, and sparkling gowns of all colors were the living decorations for the evening, given a glamorous and dramatic enhancement by the soft lighting that ran around the perimeter of the auditorium and that draped down from the center of the room.

Mike Seitz, President of the La Porte Chamber of Commerce was there, celebrating with other members of his staff.

"It's a great celebration," Seitz said. "You get to see people that you haven't seen in a while. We've got a great Mayor and a great city and this is a great opportunity for us all to get together and have a good time."

Proceeds gained from the event go to toward drug awareness and prevention programs within the community.
