Mallwalkers Hear How Walking Can Help Prevent, Control, Diabetes

fransiscan-mall-walkersLucy Cole, a registered dietitian and diabetes educator with Franciscan Medical Specialists, explains how walking can be “a powerful tool” in efforts to prevent and control diabetes, to participants in the monthly Franciscanfit Mallwalkers program April 23 at Southlake Mall in Hobart. She told how physical activity on the whole can be a key ingredient for preventing and caring for diabetes and offered nutrition tips and safety guidelines for diabetics who wish to increase activity.

Blood glucose screenings were provided by Pam Kelm, a registered medical assistant and health care coordinator in the Franciscan Medical Specialists’ endocrinology department. The Mallwalkers program takes place the fourth Wednesday of each month outside the JC Penney store on the mall’s lower level. For more information, call (800) 931-3322.
