MACU Gives Back to Community with Donation to Portage Township Food Pantry

The Portage Branch of Members Advantage Credit Union (MACU) presented a check for $500 to the Portage Township Food Pantry (PTFP) today, as part of the Credit Union’s ongoing commitment to serving and giving back to the community they are a part of.

“It is something that we always like to do for the food pantry every year,” said MACU Portage Branch Manager, Devra Leonard. “This is the perfect time of the year to do it, and we always love giving back to the facility in any way we can.”

The funds for the PTFP are specifically set aside each year for the pantry through MACU’s marketing budget, assuring that the center is always given the chance to make a difference in the lives of Portage residents each and every holiday season.

“We are a Co-Op, so our Board is made up of all volunteers,” explained Leonard. “Each year they meet and decide how much they can give to PTFP and let us know the amount, and we always love when we are able to come here and give that donation to them and help out the community.”

Leonard said the pantry holds a special place in heart due to the fact that donating to the PTFP means that money is going right back into a community she feels proud to serve.

“It’s always a nice feeling to help out so locally,” added Leonard.

And it’s that feeling of locals helping locals that inspired Texas Roadhouse Managing Partner, Doug Giltrap, to host the check presentation today.

“I am on the Pantry Board, so I offered my establishment today for the presentation and a holiday luncheon as well,” said Giltrap. “I am completely community oriented and involved, and I just want to keep doing as much as I can to help as much as I possibly can.”

And this spirit of giving back is certainly reflected on the organizations and people they touch, as evidenced by the pantry’s reaction to the presentation today.

“This is so wonderful,” explained Linda Roque, Financial Secretary for the Portage Township Food Pantry. “MACU has always been so generous to us. They have been doing this for us so many years and it is they are just, wonderful.”

Roque, who sends a personalized thank you to each donor to the pantry, also wanted to thank the community of Portage, whom have kept her quite busy over the holiday season.

“This month I am sending out over a 100 thank you notes.”
