LPHS Conquers the Crown at Homecoming

Friday night was cold, but that didn't stop the La Porte High School Homecoming game from taking place at the Slicer stadium. Parents, students, friends, faculty, and football fans showed up to see who was crowned Homecoming Royalty, and to see two great teams duke it out.

It was the Crown Point Bulldogs against the La Porte Slicers that night.

All of the candidates that represented each club for the potential to be homecoming royalty rode on floats in a parade that started at Lincoln Elementary School and ended at La Porte High School. These floats were then judged, the winning float was made by Girls Reserve, and then tailgating took place at Kiwanis Park before the game began. The smell of brats and burgers mingled with shouts of school spirit.

During Homecoming week students participated in different activities like a bon fire and pep session, and the themed days for the week were Favorite Team Day, Twin Day, Superhero/Favorite Character Day, Throwback Thursday, and Orange and Black Day.

During halftime the Homecoming Candidates lined up on the field. Through the rain they walked. The ladies sparked in beautiful dresses and the men looked sharp in their suits. Cold but smiling, they waited while the runners up were announced and then came what everyone was waiting for...

The 2014 Homecoming King and Queen are...

Seniors Storm Ean Shortt and Julia Jongkind!

"It's very humbling. I feel so blessed," Shortt said about being crowned Homecoming King. "It makes me feel so happy that I have so many peers that like me and believe in me enough to vote for me."

Though there were many wins with Homecoming, Crown Point took the last win and beat La Porte 20-14, closing out the Slicers's last home game of the season.
