LPHS Boys Track Team Overcoming the Hurdles

lphs-boys-track-2013-rotThe La Porte High School Boys’ Track team has had an unexpected season. The team’s high hopes entering the season were temporarily faltered by key injuries. However, the team has stood strong against the opposition and is looking to make a statement as the season comes to a close.

Head co-head coach of seven years Bob James said, “The guys we have out there competing are doing great. Going into sectionals, I think we are going in the right direction. We are getting our guys that are injured back, and we can make some noise in the post season.”

The name of the game for this team is improvement. Progressively throughout the season, each team member’s marks keep rising and new personal records are always being set. This is exactly the momentum the team needs for the post season. At DAC’s, of twenty-six entries in the meet sixteen set new personal records.

“You can’t ask for more than that. I think we are headed in the right direction. We just need to keep working hard like we always do,” explained James.

The strength of the team lies in the powerhouse seniors that set the tone both on and off the track. The eight seniors lead by example and have a quiet strength and determination that resonate with the rest of the team. Fortunately, the seniors are followed by a talented group of underclassmen that take after the seniors’ work ethic.

The team is hoping to make a push in all sixteen events for sectionals on May 16th at Portage High School starting.
