Lorie’s Lakeside Century

VNA-BLUELorie’s Lakeside Century, benefiting the Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County, is in memory of Lorie Kirkley who was a cardiac rehabilitation nurse at Porter and an avid cyclist who died in 1999 after being abducted from her home. The Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County is a nonprofit organization providing compassionate home health and hospice care to those in need in the community.

The ride is a community effort, manned by more than 90 volunteers at the ride headquarters at Liberty Bible Church in Chesterton, along the route and at SAG stops at the Lakeview Overlook, Art Barn, Firefly Farm and the Lions Pavilion in New Buffalo. In 2013, the ride attracted cyclists from 7 states and raised nearly $20,000 to support the care provided by the VNA. Again this year, we plan to focus on farm to table, featuring locally produced food. We have moved our Garwood SAG stop to Firefly Farm to reduce interaction with festival traffic. See maps for changes to route.

Lorie’s Ride is for experienced riders, novices, individuals and groups – with routes of 28, 38, 63, 80 and 100 miles. It’s a tour, not a race, so you can ride at any pace you choose. The terrain is flat to gently rolling, hilly but no “killers.” All routes travel to Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
