Long-term busing between Carroll Ave. & Gary/Chicago Airport stations

In order to accommodate construction for the Double Track NWI project, the South Shore Line announces a long-term busing schedule for passengers between Gary/Chicago Airport (Clark Rd.) and Carroll Ave. stations. Train service between Gary/Chicago Airport and Millennium and between Carroll Ave. and South Bend Airport will operate as normal.

Effective as of Aug. 1, 2022, and lasting through spring 2023, busing between Carroll Ave. and Gary/Chicago Airport stations will be ongoing for all weekday and weekend trains. Bus service will make all intermediate scheduled stations stops, and will operate on the regular SSL train time schedule for Carroll Ave., Dune Park, Portage/Ogden Dunes, Miller, Gary Metro Center, and Gary/Chicago Airport stations (westbound passengers boarding at Gary Metro should plan to board SSL trains on the platform throughout the duration of busing).

Loop bus service will continue to be provided to M. City 11th St. (bus stop located @ 920 Franklin St.) and Beverly Shores Station. Loop buses do not operate on the regular SSL train schedule. Please view the attached special schedule for the Beverly Shores and 11th St. loop bus. Those passengers will be bused to either Dune Park or Carroll Ave., where they may board the next scheduled SSL train.

Westbound passengers should be prepared to board buses in front of Carroll Ave. Station and re-board WB South Shore trains at Gary/Chicago Airport. Eastbound passengers will detrain at Gary/Chicago Airport to board buses, and board their scheduled EB trains again at Carroll Ave.
