“Listen to Your Mother” prepares for another heartwarming year, introduces wonderful lineup of local women

The wait is finally over; on Sunday, May 7, “Listen to Your Mother” (LTYM) will officially return to Northwest Indiana. With an amazing lineup of strong, brave women ready to share their stories and an interesting new theme, the show is sure to be more touching and tear-jerking than ever before.

“Listen to your Mother is a series of live readings by local writers about motherhood that will take you on a roller coaster of emotions, from happy to sad and everything in between via a finely-crafted show,” said Organizer Carrie Bedwell.

This year’s event is particularly exciting. The show will feature a powerful blend of veteran speakers and newbies, and each performer has chosen a unique way to tell their story.

“I am super excited about the variety of performances in this year's show, which will include everything from stories to poetry to even a song,” said Bedwell.

Bedwell is most looking forward to the passion of this year’s speakers. Every story shared at LTYM is moving, but this year’s stories will take things to a whole new level.

“We have a few really raw and emotional pieces that show the darker side of motherhood. Often, as mothers, we feel like we can only show the positive highlight reels of our lives for fear of being judged. I applaud these ladies for being willing to be vulnerable by sharing their stories,” said Bedwell.

Another interesting twist to this year’s LTYM is the theme: Confessions from the Real Moms of Northwest Indiana. This fun spoof of the “Real Housewives” franchise will add a special level of meaning to the event, one Bedwell is eager to explore.

“We want to celebrate the eclectic melting pot of culture that is Northwest Indiana. Our VIP guests will be treated to a variety of ethnic delicacies. Before the show we will also be playing original pieces of music from NWI artists, such as Jonny James's "Steel Town." Lastly, on the screen behind us on stage, we will celebrate images by local photographers that capture the magnificent landscapes of our Region, everything from the industrialization of the mill to the tranquility of our beaches and grit of all the agricultural landscape. Northwest Indiana is truly a special place,” said Bedwell.

“Listen to Your Mother” is ultimately an event for everyone that has ever known, loved, or been a mother. This year’s LTYM will be held on Sunday, May 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Hobart Art Theatre. Everyone is encouraged to attend and celebrate the beauties and struggles of motherhood.

Regular entry for the show is $20, and special high top seating is $25. VIP seating is available at extra cost for both venues, and will include added amenities and swag bags donated by local businesses. Proceeds from the auction and ticket sales will go to multiple charities that help women and children.

So grab your friends and bring some tissues—it’s sure to be a night full of laughter, tears, and love shared among everyone who has ever seen or felt the effects of motherhood at all stages of life.
