“Listen to Your Mother” is back for another year of heartfelt stories and high emotions. With an expanded list of cast members and venues, the shows are sure to pull at the heartstrings of everyone in attendance.
“”Listen to Your Mother” is a series of live readings by local writers about motherhood. These are a series of readings, from men and women, about different facets of motherhood,” said Organizer Carrie Bedwell.
This year, two separate shows will be produced. The first performance will be held on April 30 at the Hoosier Theatre in Whiting. Bedwell fell in love with the venue after watching a movie there, and decided that it would be the perfect addition to the “Listen to Your Mother” experience.
“This year was extra exciting because we were casting for two shows. We've added a show in Whiting at the Hoosier Theatre this year. One of our cast members very proudly says she was born and raised in Whiting, so when I mentioned it to her she slightly bent my arm a little bit to have a second show there,” said Bedwell.
The second show will be at the Hobart Art Theater on May 1.
Casting for this year’s production was especially exciting. The addition of another show created more spots for speakers and more possibilities for how the stories presented could fit together.
“The stories tell you how they want to fit together,” said Bedwell. “It was extra special being able to create more solutions for how the stories fit together.”
Each show will feature a unique set of cast members and stories.
“There are different members and different stories, but what everyone can expect is experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions. Some of the pieces are super hilarious, some are super sad, and then we have everything in between. I feel like there will definitely be a story or two that resonate with every audience member,” said Bedwell.
