“Lend A Hand” Event to Help Local Charities

Purdue-ExtensionLa Porte County Extension Homemakers Organization is hosting its second sewing/knitting/crocheting event this fall to help provide warmth and comfort to local residents. The next session is on Tuesday, November 18. Anyone who would like to help can meet at the Purdue Extension Office, La Porte County at 2857 W. State Road 2, by the fairgrounds. Times are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. They will be making comforters, baby quilts, tote bags, wheelchair bags, preemie hats and other needed items for La Porte County residents.

A wide variety of skills are needed. If you can run a sewing machine, sort/cut/pin or press fabric, hand stitch, trim threads or knit/crochet, or are even willing to learn, WE NEED YOU! Bring your own machine or come use one of ours and join us for an hour or for the day, meet new people and enjoy the fellowship! All help will be welcomed – let’s show our community that we care.

Donations of fabric, thread, cutting supplies, yarn, batting, etc. would be welcome! Preregistration is not needed, but will help us to plan ahead. Please call the Extension Office at 219-324-9407 for more information or to let us know if you can attend.
