LaPorte Service League Adds Special Play Activities for Children

Service-League-2013-BoardAhoy! LaPorte Service League needs some help building the pirate ship and scenery for the upcoming annual play production, opening the week of February 1.

Area children are invited to enter a drawing that will welcome a special stuffed animal, doll, or action figure to “help” at LaPorte High School during set building and at a February 1 preview performance.

“It’s positively magical what happens at night to everything and everyone when we prepare for the play. We are sure your special friend would be a big, big help with the painting and sawing and all kinds of things!” Director Nanda Danitschek explained.

Interested Mateys can enter at http://www.laporteserviceleague.com/activities and fill out the entry form online. An email will be sent to let the 20 winners know that their special friends were chosen to participate.

If so, they will bring them on Monday, January 26 between 6:30 and 8 p.m. to the LaPorte High School auditorium. Once there, the children and their friends will have pictures taken with one of the pirates from the play.

The special friend will stay with Service League all week while members are helping with the set. Each weeknight before the play begins, pictures will be posted on the League website and Facebook pages so everyone can follow the adventure.

On Sunday, February 1st at 1 p.m. the lucky friends will be sitting in special seats to watch the community performance of Pirates! Afterwards, there will be free popcorn for everyone and a special treat for the winners.

In addition before the play opens, all children are invited to color and / or decorate a picture of a fish, and these will be hung in the auditorium as part of the “ocean” during the play. The coloring sheets can be picked up at the LaPorte YMCA or the main library branch, and are posted on the Service League website at the same link: laporteserviceleague.com/activities.

Colored / decorated sheets may be returned to special boxes provided at the YMCA and the library. They also may be mailed to LaPorte Service League, P.O. Box 451, LaPorte, IN 46352.
