LaPorte County Historical Society’s 5th Annual Car Show a Hit

LaPorte’s 5th Annual Car Show grabbed the attention of young and old car enthusiasts. From owning vehicles to touring inside the museum, everyone got just what they came for during the event.

Susan Richter curates the LaPorte County Historical Society’s museum and couldn’t be more thankful. “I became the assistant of the museum in 1999 and just took the curator title this year. I’m very passionate about LaPorte’s history and I’m happy to be a part of all this history,” Richter shared.

The LaPorte County Historical Society has been around since 1906. They never have left their visitors disappointed in the 106 years they’ve been in business. Several sites were visited before they settled on Indiana Avenue located in the southern part of LaPorte.

Seventy cars were in attendance along with their drivers and families. Vehicles ranged from the early 1920s to the mid 1970s which amazed most individuals at the car show. The top three favorite models included the Auburn Speedster, the Studebaker Commodore and the ever so popular Delorean from Back to the Future.

When the 5th Annual Car Show was coming to a close, voting ballets were offered to the mayors of Michigan City and LaPorte and also to the public. There were five different trophies given to owners for the best cars in the event.

With admission only being $5, there was no doubt that a large crowd would visit. Whether there is or isn’t a contest happening on site, the LaPorte County Historical Society has its doors open to anyone and everyone interested in their cause.
