LaPorte County Habitat for Humanity Welcomes Volunteer Coordinator in 2016

Elaine-Amerson-La-Porte-Habitat-for-HumanityElaine M. Amerson, Ed D, University of Kentucky, has joined LaPorte County Habitat for Humanity as Volunteer Coordinator. Dr. Amerson is a retired university professor and administrator. She and her husband Phil reside in LaPorte.

"I'm excited about the possibilities of connecting people eager to offer their skills and service to Habitat in our community," she said. "There are a variety of different volunteer needs to fit many areas of interest. These include assisting with home construction, working in the ReStore, located at 225 East Garfield Street in Michigan City, helping in the administrative office, as well as serving on fundraising and special events committees."

Dr. Amerson noted that Habitat will be building a home at 911 Park Street in LaPorte and that volunteers are needed for this project through the summer months.

"Habitat has very few paid staff, so volunteers provide a precious source of energy that we constantly strive to renew and sustain," Dr. Amerson said. "Whether giving a few hours a month or a few hours a week, each volunteer helps to make a difference."
