Lake Hills to Host Bird Festival on October 13

Lake-Hills-Elementary-SchoolLake Hills STEM Magnet School (201 Ferguson Road, Michigan City) invites families, neighbors, and members of the community to attend its Bird Festival on Saturday, October 13, from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.

The event is free, and it will feature exhibits and special activities by the Audubon Society, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, the Lubeznik Art Center, the Izaak Walton League and many others.

According to Lake Hills STEM Coordinator Shelley Deutscher, Bird Festival visitors will be "banded" as they enter the event, to simulate bird banding that scientists perform to track migration patterns. Both children and adults can then try their hand at a bird-related craft, learn about bird feeding, take a hike to see local birds and their habitats, and view live birds that will be on display (including pigeons, chickens, geese, ducks, and others, courtesy of area 4-H Clubs).

Special thanks to the following individuals/organizations, which are taking part in the Festival or are donating materials and expertise!
