Lake Hills Students Named to Indiana Honor Choir

Lake-Hills-Honors-ChoirLake Hills Elementary school students Kalea Collins, Arieanna Woolum, and Alissa Woolum were selected for the 2015 Indiana Elementary Honor Choir.

The three students (two of whom are sisters) performed in Ft. Wayne on January 16 at the Embassy Theater, entertaining music teachers from across the state who were gathered for the Indiana Music Educators Association annual conference. They were among only 146 elementary vocalists in the state to be chosen for the choir, and are three of the five representing the northwest Indiana region.

The girls all sing soprano. They were chosen based on audition CDs they submitted, which included a performance of a prepared piece and showcased their ability to sing in harmony and match various pitches.

"It is very unusual to have more than one student from a school selected, so it's exceptional that we had three," said Lake Hills Music Teacher Steve Chambers. "More than 700 children from across the state auditioned this year, and the judges were very selective. The performance was outstanding!"

Kalea, Arieanna, and Alissa will perform (along with more than 60 other MCAS elementary and middle school students) in the Circle the State with Song Festival at Hebron High School on February 28.
