La Porte’s Mitch Hubner Places Second in State Cross Country Meet

LP-Cross-6La Porte High School Senior Mitch Hubner sailed in for 2nd place at the Indiana High School Athletic Association State Cross Country Meet on October 29 in Terre Haute, Indiana. Hubner was second only to Futsum Zeinasellassie of Indianapolis’s North Central, who set a new course record of 14:48.8.

Hubner’s final time was 15:32.9. Hubner said, “I feel amazing. I didn’t think I was going to be in the top five, and then I made my move. I am so happy and I think as a team we did pretty good too.”

LaP orte boys came in 19th of the 24 qualifying schools competing in State. La Porte sophomore Anthony Didion said, “I feel I did a lot better than I did last year, but I still feel there is a lot to improve on.” He added, “I am so happy for Mitch.”

LP-Cross-4Nathan Gerick, a junior said, “Running State is definitely an incredible experience. I am really happy for Mitch and happy to be on a team with one of the State’s #1 runners.”

LP-Cross-3Competing as an individual was sophomore Elena Lancioni. Lancioni came in the top 25, placing 21st with a time of 18:55.8. Feeling a bit overwhelmed and looking for her coaches Lancioni said, “I just want to see my coaches, I hoped to do better. My goal was to finish higher.” Lancioni did say, “I did do a lot better than last year. Next year I will fight a little harder.”
