La Porte Police Department February Operation Pull Over Seat Belt Patrol Results

La-Porte-Police-DepartmentLa Porte Police Department officers recently completed a series of Seat Belt driving patrols that were run between February 10 and 24. The focus of these patrols was on the use of Seat Belts and Child Restraint Violations.

During the patrols officers worked 60 hours of Operation Pull Over funded overtime; 34 hours from 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM and 26 hours from 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM. Officers wrote a total of 71 citations and 123 warnings. Of the citations, 50 were for Seat Belt violations and 3 for Child Restraint violations. There were 2 Open Container violations and 3 citations for speeding. Thirteen citations were for other violations. The vast majority of the warnings were for equipment and non-moving violations. Several stops yielded arrests. One was for felony DUI, one for Possession of Narcotics and a warrant out of Michigan for the same, and four for Driving While Suspended Misdemeanor.

“The La Porte Police Department will continue to have extra patrols throughout the month of March for Dangerous and Aggressive driving. We are committed to reducing the amount of crashes and crash related injuries that occur within the City of La Porte,” stated Captain Pat Hemphill

Operation Pull Over is a traffic safety grant program funded by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. The goal of Operation Pull Over is to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities by promoting passenger restraint use, and supporting impaired and dangerous driving enforcement.
