La Porte Police Department Announces September 2015 Operation Pull Over Results

La-Porte-Police-DepartmentThe La Porte Police Department would like to announce the results of 50.25 hours of seat belt patrols that were run between September 14 and September 23. During these patrols, officers wrote 82 citations and 88 warnings. Of the citations, 67 were for seat belt violations; three were for driving while suspended; three were for speeding; two were for sign/signal violations; two were for child restraint violations and the rest were for various other violations.

Seat belt surveys were done on September 30 at various locations in the City of La Porte to determine seat belt rates among local motorists. The result of the surveys showed an average seat belt usage rate of 94.2%. This is above the 2014 seat belt usage rate averages for both Indiana and the nation as a whole which were 90.29% and 87.07% respectively.

Operation Pull Over is a traffic safety grant program funded by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. The goal of Operation Pull Over is to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities by promoting passenger restraint use, and supporting impaired and dangerous driving enforcement.
