La Porte Police Department Announces July 2016 Aggressive Driving Patrols Results

La-Porte-Police-DepartmentFrom July 10 - 18 officers from the La Porte Police Department worked 60 hours of Operation Pull Over funded aggressive driving patrols. The goal of these patrols was to prevent crashes, injuries and fatalities. These patrols targeted the dangerous moving violations that cause traffic crashes. These violations include sign/signal violation and failure to yield; speeding or driving too fast for conditions; following too closely; improper turning and driving left of center among other violations.

During these patrols, officers wrote a total of 95 citations, 65 warnings and made one misdemeanor criminal arrest and one DUI arrest. The citations included 30 for speeding, 8 for sign/signal violations, 22 for seat belt violations and 7 for Driving While Suspended. The rest of the citations were for a variety of other moving and license violations.

“The La Porte Police Department will continue its efforts to increase traffic safety and prevent injury with seat belt and aggressive driving patrols running from July 28 – August 12. We will then participate in Operation Pull Over Blitz #87 which is a national enforcement event targeting impaired driving that runs from August 12 – September 5,” said Captain Tom Heath.

Operation Pull Over is a traffic safety grant program funded by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. The goal of Operation Pull Over is to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities by promoting passenger restraint use, and supporting impaired and dangerous driving enforcement.
