La Porte Police Department Announces Blitz #78 Results

La-Porte-Police-DepartmentThe La Porte Police Department joined more than 250 other Indiana law enforcement agencies in stepping up their traffic safety enforcement efforts during Operation Pull Over Blitz #78 which ran from February 28, 2014 through March 23, 2014 and targeted aggressive and impaired driving.

During Blitz #78, officers from the La Porte Police Department worked 52 hours of impaired driving patrols and 122 hours of aggressive driving patrols. During these patrols officers made five misdemeanor arrests and one felony arrest for Operating While Intoxicated and made two misdemeanor arrests for other offenses. Officers wrote a total of 267 citations and 225 warnings for other violations. Of those citations, 128 were for speeding; 19 were for driving while suspended; 14 were for stop sign and traffic signal violations; 61 were for seat belt violations; two were for child restraint violations; five were for texting while driving and the rest were for various other offenses.

“This enforcement effort was all increasing traffic safety by addressing dangerous driving behaviors such as impaired and aggressive driving. The officers of the La Porte Police Department will continue to work hard toward increasing traffic safety in the City of La Porte both by enforcement and increasing public awareness,” said Captain Tom Heath.
