La Porte Police Collecting Unused Prescriptions

La-Porte-Police-DepartmentLa Porte Police Chief Adam Klimczak would like to announce a new prescription pill drop site is in the La Porte City Police Department lobby located at 1206 Michigan Ave. In a joint effort between the City of La Porte Wastewater Department, La Porte County Solid Waste District and the La Porte City Police Department, a box is being provided to give citizens a place to dispose of unused or out-of-date prescription medication.

Medications collected will be disposed of properly and kept out of landfills or our local water supply. The agencies are asking that only pills are brought in and left in the drop box. The best way to bring in the pills is in Ziploc-type plastic bags or in the original prescription containers, with the patient name on the label removed. They will not be accepting liquids or sharps of any kind. It is recommended that unwanted liquid medication be disposed of by mixing it with kitty litter, sawdust or flour and then disposing of it in the trash.

Citizens can stop into the La Porte City Police Department Monday-Friday from 7:30AM until 9:45PM to drop off their unwanted prescription medication. This is a great way for our citizens to get these items out of their homes and another service we are pleased to provide to the members of our community.

Chief Klimczak would like to recognize Matt Amor, of the Wastewater Department, for all his efforts in getting this project going and his continued assistance throughout the implementation. Please contact the La Porte City Police Department at 219-362-9446 if you have any questions.
