The La Porte Jaycees are hosting a backpack drive for students in need at Elementary, Middle, and High Schools in the La Porte and New Prairie school systems. Just in time for back to school, the Jaycees are asking the community to help pitch in. Items that are needed for this drive include backpacks, any type of school supply, and toiletries. This year, there are many ways that you can help donate supplies for students in need.
On Sunday, August 9 from 10am-2pm, help the Jaycees Pack a Backpack at a drive through school supply drop off. This will be located at the La Porte Jaycees Clubhouse, 406 Clay Street in La Porte. Anyone donating school supplies or monetary donations on August 9th will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card!
Supplies can be dropped off during business hours at many area banks and businesses. You can drop off school supplies or monetary donations at Bethany Church, Purdue Federal Credit Union, 1st Source Bank, Centier Bank, and First Trust Credit Union.
School supplies can be dropped off at Horizon Bank and Fifth Third Bank in La Porte, no monetary donations are accepted. Donations for the 11th Annual Backpack Drive are being accepted at area businesses through August 7. Monetary donations and school supplies can also be dropped off at the Jaycees Clubhouse on Sunday August 9 from 10am-2pm.
The Jaycees can pick up supplies for those unable to drop off prior to August 9th. Pickups or questions can be directed through the event chairs, Ross Ratliff and Anita Freels, who can be reached by email, email@example.com. Every penny and every pencil collected for this event can help make a difference in making a child’s school year better.
The Jaycees is an organization that provides leadership training opportunities for its members through the projects and programs the members plan, organize, and conduct in both the community and chapter. Both young men and women between the ages of 18 and 41 are eligible to be members of this organization. The La Porte Jaycees meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm at their clubhouse, located at 406 Clay Street in La Porte.
