La Porte Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament Gives to Students

24thAnnualHealthcareScholarshipGolfTournamentThe La Porte Hospital Foundation again hosted another successful event at the 24th Annual Healthcare Scholarship Golf Tournament, swinging in support for local students and the community.

A full field of 144 golfers and countless volunteers came out on June 14 at Briar Leaf Golf Club in La Porte for a sunny day of golf, fun and philanthropy. Event proceeds totaled over $30,000. These proceeds help fund healthcare scholarships for the communities served by Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. Since 1983, more than 250 local students pursuing healthcare degrees have been awarded over $491,000. Many of these students have returned to work in the hospital’s regional service area.

“The Foundation’s golf tournament has continued to positively impact local students to achieve their education goals for the past 23 years due to the hard work of our committee, chaired by Board Member John Leinweber,” said Maria Fruth, Foundation executive vice president and chief operating officer. “On behalf of the Foundation, we truly appreciate the support of the many companies, community members and Briar Leaf Golf Club for their underwriting and participation.”

The event included 18 holes of golf with cart, player favors, lunch, a performance by golf celebrity and entertainer Peter Longo, beverage carts, post-tournament dinner and celebration, tournament awards and both a silent and live auction.

Several exclusive silent and live auction items were bid on, including NASCAR hot passes, Indianapolis Colts tickets, Chicago Bears tickets, Chicago Cubs tickets, Chicago White Sox tickets, La Porte Little Theatre and dinner package, stay at a Florida condo and much more.
