La Porte High Schoolers Go Old Hollywood at Annual Prom

lphs-prom-2013-1On Saturday May 18, La Porte High School hosted the annual junior/senior prom. This year’s theme was Hollywood.

Students made grand entrances on a red carpet where they received their own Emmy award statue. Parents, friends and fellow students surrounded the red carpet to provide a paparazzi feel.

Prom ran from 8 p.m. till 11:30 p.m. and was filled with hundreds of memories.

As students entered the Civic Auditorium, they were amazed. The venue was completely transformed to have an Old Hollywood feel.

lphs-prom-2013-2Photo booths were placed throughout to the attendees’ disposal. Balloons, streamers and cardboard cutouts of glamorous stars were placed on tables throughout the Civic.

“It was a really great experience. This was my first prom and I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but it turned out better than I thought it would have,” said guest Trent Hardee.

The prom court took over the DJ stage around 9:30.

Second runner up for prom queen was Taylor Lebo and second runner up for prom king was Kurt Urbanski.

lphs-prom-2013-3First runners up for prom queen and king were Paige Pope and Zach Cains. After much anticipation prom king and queen was announced. The winners were Nick Francesconi and Abby Kwiecien.

“I never in a million years expected to win, but I’m so thankful,” said prom queen Abby Kweicien.

Students danced the night away to the electric beats of the music and under the flashes of the strobe lights.

“This was the best dance I have ever been to in high school. It was a great way to end the year and it’s definitely something I will remember for the rest of my life,” said attendee Abbi Fryer.
