La Porte High School Newspaper: Going Back to School

laporte-slicersThe LaPorte Slicer students made their way back to school on August 13, 2015.

The returning students came back to a new starting time and multiple different teachers. The current freshmen made their way through the unfamiliar hallways as they started a fresh chapter in their lives.

Many freshmen have the fear of getting lost on their first few days of high school. Some of those fears came true, but it wasn’t as terrifying as their nightmares made it out to be.

“I’ve gotten lost like once, but it really wasn’t that big of a deal. I found my class in a couple of minutes,” freshman Ben Martin said.

Freshmen Drake Gunn, Lilly Dowty, and Ben Martin all plan on participating in extracurricular activities during the upcoming school year. Getting involved early allows students to meet people who they would not necessarily interact with. It makes a large school of 2,000 students seem small.

“I’m in volleyball right now, and I’m hoping to throw discuss for the track team. I also kind of want to join photography club,” Dowty said.

The seniors are going to experience drastic changes this year as they inch closer to adulthood and college. Seniors will have to eventually say goodbye to the majority of their friends and teachers they have grown to love and chase after their dreams.

“When I get out of high school, I plan to attend Indiana State University right after high school and become an editor. I am going to major in English, and hopefully I can work in a publishing company after school,” Zoe Bales said.

Even with all the new changes and new faces, most at LPHS are excited for what is to come.
