La Porte High School Choirs Compete in 2016 Organizational Contest

laporte-slicersThree choirs from LaPorte High School recently competed in Organizational Contest sponsored by the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA). Each choir's overall rating is determined by the combination of scores from three performance judges and one sight-reading judge.

On April 21, the combined Beginning and Intermediate Women's Chorus competed at Concord High School in Group III. (High School ensembles can enter in Group I through IV, with Group I being the most difficult.) The Women's Choir received three gold ratings for performance and one for sight-reading. This was the first time this group, comprised primarily of Freshmen girls, took part in any type of ISSMA competition.

On April 30, the Advanced choirs, Chorale and Treble Chorale, competed in the ISSMA Group I State Qualification Contest. Although their scores were not high enough to move on to State Finals, both choirs received three gold ratings for their performance. Each choir also earned the same score of 43.5 out of 44 points for their sight reading.

These choirs, along with the Beginning Men's Chorus and Show Choir will perform together at their Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 10. The performance begins at 7:00 in the High School auditorium and is presented with free admission.
