La Porte High School Announces Valedictorian and Salutatorian Candidates

Principal Ben Tonagel, of La Porte High School, is proud to announce the names of the valedictorian and salutatorian candidates from the Class of 2020.

Kaylee Marvel is La Porte High School’s Valedictorian candidate for the Class of 2020. She is the daughter of Melissa Marvel. She plans to attend Valparaiso University to major in biochemistry with plans to go to medical school.

Tyson Nisley is LaPorte High School’s Salutatorian candidate for the Class of 2020. He is the son of Kim and Michael Nisley. He plans to attend Wabash College to study actuarial science. He also plans to wrestle at Wabash College.

Candidates for valedictorian/salutatorian must meet Academic Honors requirements. Qualification points are awarded for honors courses, dual credit courses, AP courses, and total credits earned.

There were 14 finalists for the valedictorian and salutatorian designation from the Class of 2020. Each finalist maintained a 4.0 GPA and will retain a rank of number one in the Class of 2020. The valedictorian and salutatorian will address their class at commencement on July 8, 2020, at Kiwanis Stadium. More information and details on the graduation service will be released in June as state and federal health and safety measures are better known.

Congratulations to these Slicers for their outstanding achievements at La Porte High School. Their academic achievements exemplify LPCSC’s mission of “Learn Today to Excel Tomorrow.” The Slicer community is proud of these students, and we wish them the very best as they graduate from LPHS.

Kaylee Marvel is La Porte High School’s Valedictorian candidate for the Class of 2020. She is the daughter of Melissa Marvel. Kaylee plans to and plans to attend Valparaiso University to major in biochemistry with plans to go to medical school. Kaylee was awarded the Presidential Scholarship for Valparaiso University. She also received local scholarships from the Handley PTO and LPHS Girls Reserves.

Kaylee is a member of the LPHS National Honor Society, French Club, and Interact Club. She participates in soccer and is a team captain while achieving Academic All-State. She is a member of the Girls Reserve and was awarded the Work Ethic certificate. She enjoys coaching and playing soccer, completing community volunteer service for her service clubs, spending time with family, working at Redamak’s, and being outdoors.

Tyson Nisley is LaPorte High School’s Salutatorian candidate for the Class of 2020. He is the son of Kim and Michael Nisley. He plans to attend Wabash College to study actuarial science. He also plans to wrestle at Wabash College.

Tyson is a member of the LaPorte High School wrestling team. He is a 2020 IHSAA state qualifier, 2019 DAC champion, two-time sectional champion, and two-time regional champion. He earned Academic All-State twice as a wrestler. Tyson enjoys traveling the country to compete is wrestling tournaments, volunteering in the community on behalf of the wrestling program, playing video games, and hanging out with friends.
