The La Porte Fire Department is looking for disciplined high school students between ages of 16 and 18 to participate in the Fire Cadet Program. Students must have a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale. Anyone who is interested in being a firefighter or a part of the military would benefit by participating in the Fire Cadet Program. Someone who is community minded and who shows pride in themselves and their community is the ideal student for the program.
The program would require Cadets to come at least once a month to work and train with the firefighters. Cadets would be able to learn everything from ice-water rescue to everyday tasks like cleaning the fire engines. Cadets will also be able to engage in Fire Prevention throughout businesses in La Porte.
The Cadet Program has a unique structure and is more organized than a sports team. The firefighters have a great pride in the way they conduct themselves and in their community. The whole fire station is one big team that comes together to serve and protect. Those who are interested can ask their school guidance counselors for an application.
