La Porte Cruises into 2nd Saturdays!

Every summer, La Porte residents take to the sidewalks of Lincolnway, rain or shine, to enjoy a monthly spectacle of history, culture, and style. This Saturday, June 8th was no different when the street was lined with eager onlookers for the annual La Porte Cruise Night.

From 6-8 pm, over 400 classic cars cruised the streets. Onlookers were treated to flashy hot rods and streamlined classics. Lincolnway was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colors and sounds. The vehicles ranged from 1940-era classics to 1980's-era muscle cars. Seated in the cars were families, children, and even a few furry friends.

Onlooker Natalie Dole said, “It was so neat to see so many different types of cars. I had no idea how many colors and styles there were. It is really spectacular they do this in La Porte.”

The event was sponsored by the Michiana Antique Auto Club and was part of La Porte’s 2nd Saturdays! More businesses joined in on the evening as well. Edgerton’s Travel Agency hosted their own personal “Cruise Night” and offered steep discounts on cruises, refreshments, door prizes, and tours. Temple News Agency, the cozy ice cream and coffee shop, treated guests to intimate performances by local musicians. Many local restaurants, shops, and galleries stayed open late to accommodate the evening.

The 2nd Saturdays! event will continue throughout the season with the Music Mix on Saturday, July 13th. On top of the late closings for businesses, guests will be treated to multiple live music performances throughout the downtown.
