La Porte County YMCA Hosts 7th Annual Indoor Triathlon

LaPorte YMCA Indoor Triathlon FEB 16 2014-1While most people were still enjoying a quiet and snowy Sunday morning, a small group of La Porte County Family YMCA members were getting ready to swim, bike and run at the 7th Annual Indoor Triathlon. Despite the field being small, there was great encouragement and bright smiles from all participants.

Wellness Director Elizabeth Bowen and her staff were helping athletes move from the lower level pool to the cardio area for the bike and running portions of the event.

LaPorte YMCA Indoor Triathlon FEB 16 2014-3“This is a great way to help keep people motivated to participate in the August event, and to gauge their level of fitness in the winter months. It is also a good way for those thinking about participating in a triathlon to get an introduction to each phase of the race”, said Bowen.

Participants were challenged to swim as many laps as they could in 10 minutes in the pool, bike as many miles in 15 minutes on a stationary bike, and run as many miles as they could on a treadmill in 15 minutes. Winners received a free entrance into the 35th Annual USAT Outdoor Triathlon on August 2nd.
