La Porte County Symphony Orchestra Presents Lights, Camera…Oscars!

Lights-Camera-OscarsIt will be an evening to remember on the red carpet with a Hollywood party right here in La Porte! This red carpet concert event ushers in a new era as the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra welcomes a new title concert sponsor, 1st Source Bank Celebrating 150 Years

Please join us for "Lights, Camera . . . OSCARS" on November 16th.

Maestro Philip Bauman's Now Showing movie theme for the 2013-14 season will transform the Civic as the orchestra performs an array of epic scores from OSCAR nominated movies. This family friendly concert will include eight decades of treasured and unforgettable cinema musical moments. Be swept away to those magical moments where you and your friends escaped the real world with popcorn, a beverage and the promise of an imaginative, larger-than-life musical saga.

Area actors from La Porte Little Theatre and Michigan City Foot Light Players have been invited to lead the way down the red carpet, donning tuxedos, evening gowns and perhaps a tiara or two. Audience members are welcome to join in the fun by wearing their own Hollywood clothing, or they may relax in the casual concert atmosphere to just make it a fun evening to be entertained, as a wide array of movie music soars through the rafters of the La Porte Civic Auditorium.

Grace-TarnowFor a special treat, two soloists have been invited by Maestro Bauman to embellish some familiar pieces. They are Grace Tarnow, 2012 Youth Division winner of Hoosier Star and Tim King, a tenor that is new to the area but has vast experiences entertaining orchestra audiences across the country.

Movies that you will enjoy include a wide range of familiar melodies such as: "Tara's Theme" in Gone with the Wind, that familiar whistled tune in

Bridge on the River Kwai, a moving tribute to composer Marvin Hamlisch and Charles Steck's famous trumpet solo from the Godfather score.

Younger audience members may be eager to go "Over the Rainbow" with the Wizard of Oz or find "a Friend in Me" with Pixar's Toy Story or "Feel the Love Tonight" with Disney's Lion King. For the grandiose orchestrations that depict epic tales the audience will enjoy Sea Hawk, Doctor Zhivago, Silverado, Forrest Gump, The Patriot, The Chronicles of Narnia, Gladiator and The Hobbit.

Special thanks also goes to concert sponsor Beacon Health Systems. They help pay for the technology that supports the bold cinema sounds. Performing at the historic La Porte Civic Auditorium, the orchestra will be located below the stage where the acoustics for the orchestra are well accentuated.

Tim-KingConcertgoers may choose to come early for a dinner catered by Portofino's Grill beginning at 6:00 pm. As a bonus for the dinner guests, there will be a few OSCAR party festivities to enjoy.
