Nanda Danitschek, of La Porte County Symphony Orchestra, Named Co-Chairperson for 9th Annual Presentation of Hoosier STAR

Hoosier-StarA night of phenomenal vocal competition with the orchestra's interpretation of styles ranging widely from show tunes to rock, crooner ballad to country, Hoosier STAR is a community event like no other and has become one of La Porte's most attended and favored family friendly events.

The audience holds all the cards, as 1st and 2nd place winners in both the adult and youth divisions is chosen by their vote alone

La Porte County Symphony Orchestra is very proud and excited to announce that Nanda Danitschek has accepted the position as Co-Chairperson for Hoosier STAR 2014. She joins Sheryl Edwards, who has been the Hoosier STAR Chairperson since its inception nine years ago. Nanda is an accomplished area vocal performer, as well as one of our community's young leaders. She has performed in several area theatrical productions and shares her performance knowledge with youth in our community as a vocal coach. As a psychology major, Nanda aspires to build community as it applies to the workplace while promoting healing and change throughout La Porte County. She was Adult runner-up in Hoosier STAR 2006 and became the Hoosier STAR 2010 Adult winner when she brought down the house with an amazing performance of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You," sung in the style of Whitney Houston. She has also served as an audition judge for this event in the past and coordinates summer events for winning finalists, such as the Independence Day Parade. Nanda looks forward to being a part of Hoosier STAR and helping the event grow each year!

The Hoosier STAR stage will be packed with high energy and quality performers. The Hoosier STAR Orchestra conducted by Phil Bauman along with the LCSO chorus, Illumination directed by Becky Osborn will perform a wide range of music to accompany the soloists. Commenting on each of the finalists are three celebrity judges: Bonnie Quigley, community theater director, actor, costumer, producer, Warren Moulton, opera tenor/entertainer and Jim Post, musician, performer, songwriter and entertainer. Introducing the contestants for the evening is the amazing and witty, Ric Federighi from WIMS 1420AM.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Upon admission, every person who holds a ticket will be given two paper ballots for voting purposes: one vote for the youth division and one vote for the adult division.

A team from Schmitt and Kaylor CPAs will tabulate the ballots to determine the winners.
