La Porte County Parks Department Hosts Mom/Son Dance Halloween Style

La-Porte-County-Parks-Mom-Son-Dance-2012-1Halloween fun was had by all at the La Porte County Parks Department Mom/ Son dance on Friday night. The evening was filled with snacks, games, dancing and, of course, candy. Laura Moyer, Recreation/ Education Programmer for the Parks Department, explained how the first ever “Halloween Style” Mom/ Son dance came to be.

“Last year we had it in March,” Moyer said. “This will be the first year we’re doing it Halloween style, so I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, because everybody loves Halloween, especially me.”

The party featured some group games such as Musical Pumpkin, a marshmallow relay race and “gross and disgusting” buckets, where the kids had to use their sense of touch to determine if the contents of the buckets were witch eyeballs, spiders or Frankenstein’s fingers. The moms and sons danced to some spooky favorites such as “Monster Mash” and “Thriller”, and in the end everyone was treated with something sweet.

La-Porte-County-Parks-Mom-Son-Dance-2012-3Alison Hoover and her son Tyler, who was dressed as a dinosaur, had fun playing the buckets game, and when Julie Long’s sons Griffin (a SWAT Officer) and Graydon (a blue Power Ranger) were asked what part of the party they thought was the most fun they replied emphatically, “I want to dance!”

The Parks Department staff did an excellent job of hosting a fun and family friendly event, a goal to which they aspire with all of their events. For more information on upcoming events, you can visit their website at laportecountyparks.org.
