Those working as a CASA will begin their efforts to support the best interest of children who have been abused or neglected and assist in providing an opportunity for a safe, permanent and nurturing home. CAYA volunteers will support youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system due to delinquent acts by promoting educational, employment, positive peer relationships, life skills and other short-term goals.
Six volunteers received comprehensive training of the system as well as engage in the process by observing court. Ongoing workshops and resource collaboration will provide additional tools to assist volunteers in making a difference in the life of a child or youth.
The need for advocates is ongoing with children on a waiting list for help. Volunteers are needed to help children and youth who are appointed to both programs. For more information, please visit www.lpfamilyadvocates.com or call 219.324.3385 to help.
