La Porte County, Indiana Genealogical Society September 9, 2014 Meeting

lcigs-logoDid your ancestors live in La Porte County? Were they here before December 31, 1840? Were they pioneers, or did they help settle this county? Are you a direct descendant of one of the brave youths who left their home in La Porte County a century and a half ago, to serve the Union cause? On September 9, 2014, the La Porte County, Indiana Genealogical Society will honor some who have documented their ancestors and the links to them. The Society meets the second Tuesday of each month at the La Porte Parks Department Headquarters at 250 Pine Lake Avenue, in La Porte.

For many years, the La Porte County, Indiana Genealogical Society has awarded First Family certificates to individuals who could prove descent from the earliest settlers in La Porte County. More recently, more categories were added: Pioneers, Settlers, and Civil War ancestors. More details and the specific rules for each classification can be found on the Society’s website, http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~inlcigs/.

The society also has a blog at http://lpcgs.blogspot.com/. There you can find summaries of meetings, news items about the society, and a posting of several years of the society’s newsletter.
