La Porte County Habitat for Humanity Celebrates Habitat ReStore Opening

The La Porte County Habitat for Humanity celebrated the grand opening of its ReStore, located at 1002 W. Greene St. in Michigan City with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by Mayor Ron Meer at 1 p.m. on Monday.

He was joined by Habitat Executive Director Debra Trapikas; Habitat Board of Directors President Jeff Hilb; ReStore Manager Jessica Kirby; Michigan City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ann Dahm; and other Board of Directors members. The ReStore carries a variety of new and used building materials, home appliances, furnishings and miscellaneous items donated by businesses and members of the community.

The items are sold for half price and the profits are used to build homes for partner families in La Porte County. Mayor Meer was among the opening day customers, after he found wall art with a football theme. The ReStore is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Donations may be dropped off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, or arrangements can be made to pick up donations by calling the La Porte County Habitat for Humanity office at 219-8-14-4985.
