Twenty members and guests were present for the regular monthly meeting of the La Porte County (IN) Genealogical Society. This meeting was in Meeting Room "A" of the Main Branch of the La Porte County Public Library, and began at the special time of 6:15 PM.
Following the business portion of the meeting and refreshments provided by Cindy Blicher, professional librarian Mary Hedge led us on a tour of the remodeled library. Special attention was given to the Indiana Room and its resources for local history and genealogy.
September 12, the Society will meet at the usual time of 7:00 PM., and the usual meeting place of the La Porte City Parks Department Headquarters, 250 Pine Lake Avenue, La Porte. The featured program will be the presentation of Residency Awards for 2017. For many years, the society has presented awards for First Family, honoring the heritage of the people who settled in La Porte County before December 31, 1840. More recently, recognition has been expanded to Settler Families, Pioneer Families, and Civil War Families.
