The La Porte County Family YMCA will be hosting an online Day of Giving n Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
Every child needs the skills to feel safe and confident around water, especially in our lakefront community. Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1-14.
In our community, our children are more than a statistic, they’re our future. Our YMCA is determined to eliminate childhood drownings in our community. The YMCA created the concept of group swim lessons over 100 years ago and teaches over 1,000,000 children invaluable water safety and swimming skills every year.
The Y’s size and reach as a vital community asset uniquely positions our organization to bridge the gap in the delivery of swim lessons and water safety education. In a recent survey conducted by our national office, we learned that 9 out of 10 parents see swimming as a key life skill, but 3 out of 10 parents state that water safety isn’t a priority due to affordability concerns.
Our goal is to remove these financial barriers so that every child in our community can learn these life-saving skills. Swim lessons and water safety aren’t a luxury, they’re a necessity. Our goal for our Day of Giving is to raise $5,000.00. This would provide swim lessons for 100 children.
Together, we can bridge the gap, and keep our children safe.
