The LaPorte County Extension Homemakers held their annual Cultural Arts Contest on May 18th at the Extension Office. Extension Homemakers were invited to enter handmade craft items in the areas of: Paintings, Sculptures, Photography, Fiber Arts, Needlework, Rug Making and Heritage Skills. The special project is handmade hats which was also an entry category. One hat and one other craft were chosen as LaPorte County’s entry at the Annual Home and Family Arts Conference in Indianapolis in June.
Winners for the 2017 Cultural Arts Contest and representing LaPorte County at the Annual Home and Family Conference are Sandra Provan from Town & Country Extension Homemaker Club with her crochet white baptismal shawl and Sharon Russ from East Galena Extension Homemakers Club with her crocheted red hat. Other exhibitors were 2nd place – Bonnie Robinson of Kitchen Kin Extension Homemaker Club with a baby quilt and 3rd place – Victoria Kelsey of East Galena Extension Homemaker Club with a counted cross-stitch picture.
