La Porte County Community Gets Thanks from Flint for Generosity

projecth20-laportecounty-2016On Monday February 15, 2016 at 10:00 AM (EST) a Feed The Hungry semi-tractor-trailer escorted by the Michigan State Police and the La Porte County Sheriff’ Office arrived in Flint, Michigan with hundreds of cases of water. That marked the culmination of two weeks worth of collecting bottled water for the citizens of Flint, Michigan. Below are copies of emails that were received by La Porte County Sheriff John Boyd from two citizens in Flint wishing to express their appreciation for the donation.

“Please accept my deepest gratitude for you and the men and women of the La Porte county Sheriff's department for your aid in providing clean drinking water to the citizens of Flint, Mi. Being a resident of Flint it means a lot to see people from all over the nation come together to offer assistance. Thank you.”

“As a resident of Flint, I cannot thank you and the community of LaPorte enough for the concern for our city. I am astounded at the level of charity that we have received from those outside our area. God bless you and those you represent for their willingness to donate clean water for us in our time of need.”

Sheriff Boyd commended all of the citizens of La Porte County for being so generous for their donations of bottled water. “Not only did our citizens step up to the plate, our deputies rose to the challenge by collecting 1,000 cases of water. We hope that our contribution makes an impact in the Flint Community. We encourage everyone to be mindful of the struggles they face and ask that we keep the citizens of Flint in our thoughts and prayers.” Sheriff Boyd continued “we also appreciate the cooperative effort between Feed The Hungry which supplied the semi-truck and driver as well as the assistance we received from the Michigan State Police. Through this collaborative effort we were able to bring the “Project H2O” mission to a successful conclusion.”

"We want to thank Sheriff Boyd and Captain Kellems for allowing our schools to become a part of this wonderful project. The Cougar Nation rallied once again and between all of our schools, we sent approximately 1,000 cases as a contribution. We also want to thank the Kankakee Township Fire Department for their help in transferring the water over to the LaPorte County Fairgrounds. We want to thank Mr. Keith Hite, and his building trades students who have also helped tremendously in the gathering and loading of water. It was touching to see the large stacks of water in all of our schools, knowing the sacrifice and generosity of all who participated. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts."
