La Porte County Athletic Weekend Round-Up

The Blazers had no trouble disposing of visiting Calumet on Friday.

Marquette honored the careers of Samantha Fanson, Anna Grabovac, Taylor Bowen, Sofiya Zybalova, Gracie Beck and Meghan Flores of the cheer and dance squads and Ian Smith, Cortland Gillespie, Nate Flores and Richie Mitchell of the basketball team.

The Blazers were also victorious in the junior varsity contest, pulling out a 94-49 victory.

The team returns to action on Friday, February 28 when they travel to Elkhart Memorial. JV tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. with varsity to follow.

Marquette 100, Wheeler 59 (Boys Basketball)

The Blazers had no problem dispensing of the Bearcats in both games as the JV won 76-18 and the varsity won 100-59.

Portage 55, La Porte 51 (Boys Basketball)

Luke Kizer had 21 points to lead Portage, while Jordan Collazo had 17 points, Jacob Bearss had eight and Michael Lattanzi chipped in seven for the Indians.

Michigan City 58, Merrillville 48 (Boys Basketball)

The Wolves snapped their losing streak Friday night with a win over the Pirates on Senior Night at the Wolves Den.

Head Coach John Boyd trotted out a starting lineup that included all five seniors: Luke Daurer, Donnie Wilson, Michael Smallwood, Java Oliver and Keenan Simmons.

Simmons (pictured) had a double-double, posting 23 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for Michigan City (12-6 overall, 5-2 DAC). Brad Pawloski had nine points on three three-point shots and Jaronde Boyd added six for the Wolves.
