La Porte City Hall Open House Showcases New Renovations

There was a great deal of celebration going on at the La Porte City Hall on Thursday. An open house was held unveiling the new renovations that the building has undergone recently. Citizens of La Porte had the opportunity to see all the great work that had been done to their City Hall.

A great deal of work had gone into this project. The heating and air capabilities of the city hall have been completely revamped. Also, an overall upgrade was made to the building's electrical system as well as a great deal of updating and moving offices around. Not to mention, the cosmetic changes that have been made to the building. There were even a few people there excited about the new view.

"We're all really excited to showcase the upgraded City Hall," said Mayor Blair Milo. "A lot of necessary improvements have been made that will impact our overall workflow. It was absolutely worth the wait."

This has been the first large-scale renovation that the La Porte City Hall has undergone. The building was first constructed in 1913 as a post office and was used for quite some time. However, in 1964 the city acquired that post office and three years later turned it into City Hall. It has been functioning as City Hall ever since.

Why the sudden update? Aside from improving the workflow of the city officials, the main reason for the change was quite commendable. With the new renovations, La Porte City Hall is now fully ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessible. Before the upgrade, the building was up to all of the state requirements, but the public servants of La Porte decided that just meeting requirements was not enough. They wanted to make sure that any handicapped or disabled persons coming to their City Hall had easy access to everything inside.

Knowing what the City Hall used to look like, everyone who attended the open house was blown away by the renovations. Ask anyone who was there and they'll say that the hard work that the construction team at Larson-Danielson put in really paid off.

"A lot of people put a lot of work into this," said Theresa Ludlow, the Clerk-Treasurer. "All of the construction workers were all wonderful people. We couldn't have asked for a nicer group of people."

A great deal of painstaking work went into seeing this construction through. The La Porte City Hall has come a long way since its days as an early 20th century post office. With this building that feels brand new, the public servants of La Porte can continue to enrich their city.
