The La Porte County Visitors Center hosted this year’s poetry showcase and awards ceremony on April 28th. The event celebrated the creativity of young poets, showcasing talent from various grades.

La Lumiere is proud to announce that several students were recognized for their outstanding poetic abilities. Carmen Navarro claimed the top spot in the 10th grade category, while in the 9th grade category, Shokria Khairy earned 1st place. Freshmen Helena Acosta and Zoe Zeilbeck secured 2nd and 3rd place. Additionally, Shokria emerged as the standout poet, receiving the highest honor in the showcase.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the La Porte County Junior Poet Laureate Award to Shokria Khairy. This prestigious recognition defines Khairy’s exceptional talent and commitment to the art of poetry.

Shokria Khairy will be awarded the official prize and will have the opportunity to showcase her poetry at Fox Park’s Arts in the Park event on June 20th. The poetry showcase and awards ceremony not only celebrated the artistic achievements of these young poets but also highlighted the vibrant literary community at La Lumiere School. The event was a testament to the dedication and talent cultivated through a La Lu education and reflects what it means to be a member of our supportive community.
