La Lumiere teachers and husband and wife team, Chris Ciambarella and Li Chen Tsai, a native of Taiwan, led the students through tours of the country. In addition to cultural studying and traveling, students completed 25 hours of community service by assisting in activities such as working on an organic farm and teaching English to Taiwanese students.

Rising senior, Blair Arnell of Chesterton, Ind. said, “This trip changed my perspective on key aspects of my life and taught me how to reflect on my own life and the world surrounding me. We were immersed in Buddhist beliefs which differs from my primarily Christian perspective. A particular moment that will remain in my memory was an opportunity that occurred at the home of ‘Taiwan's Mother Teresa,’ Master Cheng Yen. A handful of students were able to attend a chanting ceremony with Buddhist nuns. The peace and utter gratitude that the Buddhists upheld inspired me. The opportunity of being invited into one of their sacred ceremonies will be a moment I will never forget.”
