La Lumiere Student named Indiana Regional Academic All-Star

Tommy-Yemc-Academic -Regional-All-StarLa Lumiere School is proud to announce that Thomas Andrew Yemc has been named a Regional Academic All Star by the Indiana Association of School Principals. Tommy is the son of Tom and Susie Yemc of Long Beach. Each Indiana High School may nominate one senior for this prestigious award. As many as 90 students are recognized as regional winners by a selection committee. Students are recognized for their academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community service. Students are asked to nominate an influential educator during the application process.

Tommy nominated his physics and calculus teacher, Ken Andert. Ken, Chairman of the Science Department at La Lumiere, spends his summers working at the University of Notre Dame’s QuarkNet Program. Funded by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Education, QuarkNet is a nationally-recognized program bringing together high school students and faculty to contribute to the University of Notre Dame’s physics research. Tommy had the opportunity to intern at QuarkNet and spent the past summer enjoying a crash-course in particle physics given by world-renowned scientific researchers. Tommy will attend the University of Notre Dame next fall.
