La Lumiere Senior Awarded Prestigious QuestBridge Scholarship to Yale

La Porte, Indiana - April 30, 2020 - Michael Sacks, a senior at La Lumiere from La Porte, has earned a College Match Scholarship to Yale through the QuestBridge program, which partners with colleges to provide a four-year full scholarship to selective universities.

“We are absolutely thrilled for Michael, “ said Head of School Adam Kronk. “He’s an outstanding student, a genuine, intellectually curious soul who will benefit Yale just as much as it’ll benefit him. What an incredible and well-deserved opportunity.”

Two major dimensions of Yale attracted Sacks: their academics and community. “I intend to pursue a STEM major, but I don’t wish to limit myself to only these classes. Yale allows me to pursue classes outside of my major, so I will be able to take full advantage of the wonderful faculty and classes. They also have many top tier research facilities and encourage undergraduate involvement in them. After my education, I intend to pursue research, and the opportunities available at Yale will allow me to start building a foundation for this,” Sacks said.

Sacks notes that the scholarship acknowledges the effort that he has put into his academics, but also the community that has surrounded him and encouraged him throughout his time at La Lumiere. “All the teachers whose passion for their classes encouraged me and made me want to learn, my wonderful advisor who was always willing to have a conversation with me no matter how trivial, and my mom who has done more for my family than I could ever hope to acknowledge, among many others. It is an embodiment of the efforts of all those who have impacted me, and it now paves the way for those who come next.”

The QuestBridge program partners with top-tier universities and provides a four-year scholarship, which includes covering tuition, room and board, books, and more, to high-achieving students that have limited financial support. The aim is to provide opportunities to students that will thrive on a campus of a leading college.
