La Lumiere School’s Academic Decathlon Team Heads to State for the Sixth Consecutive Year

La-Lumiere-SchoolLa Lumiere School’s Academic Decathlon team placed first in the small school division and second overall at the state regional competition held on Saturday, Jan. 24 at Kankakee Valley High School in Wheatfield. The win qualifies the Lakers to compete in the 30th Annual Indiana Academic Decathlon State Finals, February 13-15 on the Purdue University, West Lafayette Campus.

Students compete in the Academic Decathlon in three divisions determined by GPA; Honors Division, Scholastic Division, and Varsity Division. The following students won medals:

Lydia Costello of Chesterton competed in the Honors Division and placed third overall. Costello also placed second in Economics, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music, and Speech, and third in Interview and Social Science.

Grace Dybing of La Porte competed in the Honors Division and placed second overall. Dybing also placed first in Economics, Essay, Language and Literature, and Music, and second in Art.

Hannah Fogel of Manteno, IL competed in the Honors Division and placed first in Language and Literature, second in Social Science, and third in Economics.

Angela Mofield of La Porte competed in the Scholastic Division and placed first overall. Mofield also placed first in Language and Literature and Social Science, second in Essay and Speech, and third in Economics, Mathematics, and Music.

Emily Smith of Indianapolis competed in the Scholastic Division and placed first in Art and third in Language and Literature.

Mary Keiley of Rolling Prairie competed in the Varsity Division and placed first in Interview, second in Science, and third in Essay, Language and Literature, Mathematics, and Music.

Lenik Zaranski of Chesterton placed second overall in the Varsity Division and received first place in Essay, Science, and Speech second in Interview, Mathematics, and Music, and third in Economics.
