La Lumiere School Returns to the National Stage for the ESPN National High School Invitational

2013-ESPN-NHSI-teamLa Lumiere Basketball takes the court once again competing in the ESPN National High School Invitational set for April 4-6 at Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, Md. Ranked 11th nationally by ESPN, the Lakers will play 4th ranked St. Benedict’s Prep of Newark, New Jersey at 1:00 pm CST on Thursday, April 4.

Considered by many as the high school national championship, the eight-team tournament features six of the top 11 teams in the country, with all eight teams ranked by ESPN. If the Lakers win, they will play at 3:30 pm CST on Friday, April 5. This highly prestigious invitational tournament will be televised live on the ESPN channels. An added component of the ESPN tournament is the inclusion of Student representation on the trip. La Lumiere’s Head Prefect, Kathryn Knight of Beverly Shores and Sacristan Prefect, Daisy Costello of Chesterton, both Seniors and scholar-athletes in their own right, will serve as ambassadors and bloggers throughout the three-day program. Alumni meetings and a seminar at The Brookings Institution round out their experience.

la-lumiere-schoolLa Lumiere concluded the regular season with a school record of 26 wins and 3 losses. In late March they competed in the Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament. Hall of Fame coach Morgan Wootten calls the Alhambra Invitational "The most prestigious Catholic High School tournament in the country." The Lakers first played celebrated DeMatha High School (MD), winning 51-50. La Lumiere then played ESPN #23 Bishop O’Connell High School (VA), where the Lakers fell 65-60. The Lakers dropped their last game of the tournament to Gonzaga College Prep (DC) 56-53.

Heading into the ESPN tournament, the Lakers are 27-5 and are undefeated at home for the third consecutive year.
